Glory (The High Priestly Prayer) - John 17:1-5
The High Priestly Prayer - John 17:1-5
In the Lord's prayer, we see that Jesus teaches us how to pray, but in the High Priestly Prayer, Jesus shows us how he prays for us. Jesus acts as our intercessor eternally on our behalf. We see a glimpse of His eternal intercession in what he prays for us in John 17.
What do we see Him praying for in this peek into heavenly intercession? We see that Jesus prays for God's glory. If Jesus is praying on our behalf, why does he pray for God's glory? God's glory is the fullness of who God is in all of His attributes. God is glorified when the fullness of who He is, is seen and treasured.
John Piper and the Westminister Catechism say it best " The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever." We are made to glorify God forever. When Jesus prays for God's glory, he is praying for our highest good that we might know and love God for who He is.
